When I left my little town in the North, I wasn’t sure of what I should have expected from this superb event.

Certainly, I planned to leave for fun and not only to learn italian.
Why did I pick Italy?
Do I really have to tell you why I opted for the most amazing region in the world which sells the tastiest food I’ve ever savored in my entire life?
Well, here we are, let’s summarize the most incredible journey of a international lonely lad in Florence, Italy.

When I was a child, I used to enjoy old movies set in those great Italian towns: Rome, Naples, Florence and the exclusive Venice.
My mom and dad were able to travel around the world before I was born and they kept sharing with me how much they loved Italy in all its shades: people, sightseeing, food, tradition and art.

So I lived with this appreciation for Italy and once I managed to graduate I promised myself I’d have had some time in Italy for both learning its difficult but so passionate language and tasting the exquisite food.

I made so much researches of which city I should go to and which school could have been the best for my desires. I chose Florence for so many factors!
1st, its optimal position in a sort of way very comfortable in the middle of the country and I’ll clarify you later why this was a very crucial factor, and second for the school I chose amongst so countless others. Browsing reviews and testimonials online concerning Italian schools for international students, I almost had no alternative but pick up its name!
I attended courses at David Institute of Florence where I felt immediately welcome and I was able to feel a high level of professionalism and reliability.

Learning a new language is not a joke, furthermore if we think to study a very challenging language as Italian is, but this school understands how to cope with that and I learned as much as I could in a couple weeks. I probably cannot read and translate the well known Manzoni and his Promessi Sposi, but I’m now adequate to let people understand me and I even can be left all alone in the streets without the issue of communication.

I made everything on line on davidschool.com and all I needed to do was just… LEAVE!

As I landed in Florence (yes, there is a tiny but well-designed international airport near the famous town) I was bewildered by the loudness and the perfumes all-around me. I was in Italy, now!
I picked up my belongings and called a cab, everything was just going on well, until I tried to tell my driver the destination I had to get to.
He first understood David the popular sculpture by Michelangelo and drove me there, exactly in front of the Galleria dell’Accademia. Then, after many of explanations in my very unsure and poor Italian, added to his quite unreal English, he finally took me to the entrance of the David School.

Quite comic, isn’it?

I’ve definitely thought to be a person who doesn’t like eating that much. I mean, I can understand a good recipe, but I’m not satisfied with cooking food or eating as a general rule. Well, this was way ahead of when I travelled to Florence.
I’ll never forget their delicious Fiorentina, a sort of a very popular local t-bone renowned around Italy.
I treated myself like a king and I even got fat but it’s not possible not to eat while you are here, it is component of the understanding Italy.
Ice creams, pizza, meat, pasta, salumi (jam, salame and other pieces of real paradise) are virtually everywhere around you and you can’t refuse!

I opted for Florence for its strategic location mainly because I wanted to have some trips during my visit. I went to the Fashion Capital, Milan then Venice and Rome and I could travel a lot thanks to the trains. From Florence you a have a wide and very well-connected railway system that allows you to reach virtually any destination you desire.
Also if you want to be in Florence only, you will need to be sure to have at least one week for sightseeing this incredible city.
Its Uffizi, with work of arts by Botticelli as his Venus, should be reserved on time considering that every single day there is a fair line of tourists patiently waiting at the entrance.
And as you wander in Florence streets or along the impressive Ponte Vecchio, you can feel the genuine historical past all around you. This city hosted the most remarkable creative thinkers of the centuries: Leonardo, Dante, Lorenzo il Magnifico.
This is the cradle of mankind knowledge, this is where Italian language was born and I was enough blessed to live here for two entire months.

After sensing a sense of independence, I had to prompt myself the reason of my travel to Florence: study a new language!
I strived hard to learn and practice the most I could, but there was also enough time for us, the students, to have fun with people!
We used to go out in groups after classes and I quickly learned that “aperitivo” is a great way to spend some time in an Italian club just before dinner time. I won’t tell you more, just discover by yourself and you won’t be upset!

Italian guys are so much fun and laid back, you will find yourself in an fascinating atmosphere.
You won’t feel dissapointed about this investment, you will eventually feel dissapointed about not having done that sooner!
